Peruvian exports of lime and processed lime increase 10% in 2009
Peruvian exports of lime and processed lime grew ten percent in 2009 making 17.3 million dollars, compared to the 15.7 million dollars in 2008, informed the Association of Exporters (ADEX). The highest revenue was from “essential oils of lime” with 7.8 million, representing 45 percent of total shipments.
This derivative is used in the development of flavors for the food industry, such as cookies, candies, and pharmaceuticals for drug development.
Other items exported are “lime juice”, with shipments worth 4,403 million dollars, 85 percent more than in 2008, “lime peel” with shipments worth 4,239 million, and “lime” with 888 thousand dollars, with an increase of 3%.
Other destination countries are Germany, Chile, Mexico, Italy, Japan, Canada, Ireland, Panama, a total of 18 countries where Peru exported lemons and their derivatives.
