Report Highlights:
China’s MY 2009 peach/nectarine production is forecast at 9.8 MMT, up two percent from the previous year. Production continues to increase steadily in spite of reduced acreage, as the majority of planted trees have production cycle.
Cherry production is forecast at 195,000 MT in MY 2009, up 12 percent from the previous new plantings in previous years have become bearing. Peaches are a favorite fruit among Chinese consumers, China’s peach production continues to increase, consumption growth has shown signs of a slowdown. Cherry consumption is growing as a result of increased production, which makes the fruit more affordable.
