Poland: decrease in prices of onion

This week the purchase prices of onion much decreased. In lódzkie province the price decreased from 1.80 (0.43 euro) to 1.00 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg, in surroundings of Krosno from 1.80 PLN (0.43 euro)/kg to 1.00 – 1.30 PLN (0.24-0.31 euro)/kg.

In podlaskie province the price was lower by 0.40 PLN (0.09 euro)/kg (1 PLN (0.24 euro)/kg), in malopolskie province by 0.30 PLN (0.07 euro) (1.20 PLN (0.29 euro)/kg). In spite of these falls the average price of onion is higher by about 0.10 PLN (0.02 euro)/kg than in the same period 2008. Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) estimates that harvest of onion will be higher than last year (640 thousand t) by about 4 %.
