July 2009 Citrus Update to the February Forecast
Orange Production and Trade Unchanged
World production and trade estimated at 50.8 million metric ton (MMT) and 3.2 MMT, respectively, are virtually unchanged from the February forecast. The higher export projection for the United States (up 39 percent) is in response to the strong demand from China and Hong Kong and larger exportable supplies.
Morocco’s exports decreased 36 percent as trade with Russia, its top export market, fell as the Moroccan dirham strengthened against the Russian ruble. Argentina’s exports were revised downward 29 percent due to reduced production.
Tangerine/Mandarin Trade Higher
World trade, forecast at 2 MMT, continues to grow steadily. Exports are up 24 percent as China more than doubled initial February expectations of 340,000 MT with strong demand from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
