Production Forecast to Contract

Global almond production for 2009/10 is forecast at 760,000 metric tons (MT), down 13 percent mostly due to an expected smaller crop in the United States, where over 80 percent of the world’s almonds are produced. U.S. production is forecast to fall 17 percent to total 612,350 MT.

In contrast to last year’s ideal bloom conditions, rain and cool temperatures during this criticalperiod have resulted in yields falling 20 percent.
