Louis Dreyfus to Open Mexican Coffee Mill
Louis Dreyfus Commodities Group will open a dry coffee mill and warehouse in Perote, Mexico, on Nov. 12, the vice-president of Louis Dreyfus Coffee Group said on Tuesday.
« The company is making a push on the investment side, really across all the commodities, » said Jaye Irwin, vice-president of Louis Dreyfus Coffee Group, a part of LD Commodities Group.
The investment, the first in Mexico for Louis Dreyfus Corp.’s Coffee Group, is valued at just over $3.4 million. It will add onto the existing Compromex S.A. de C.V., the local subsidiary of Louis Dreyfus Corp, Irwin said.
Mexico is the world’s sixth biggest coffee producer, according to the International Coffee organization. The new facility, named Beneficio el Cofre, is at an altitude of nearly 2,500 meters (8,202 feet) in the state of Veracruz. It will target both the export and internal markets.
The warehouse will have storage capacity of 200,000 60-kg bags of coffee. « Plans for the site include future expansion into a multiuse facility for other commodities such as sugar and cotton, » a company release said.
