300 new organic producers a month in 2009

According to the first estimations of the BIO Agency, 3 600 new producers undertook in the organic farming in 2009, that is 300 producers of more on average every month. The number of organic producers increased of 23 % between 2008 and 2009.

At the end of 2009, 16 400 producers cultivated according to the mode of organic production in France, while they were 13 298 in 2008. That’s the best record since 1995.

France is counting 25 000 operators (producers, transformers, distributors and importers) in the organic sector at the end of December 2009, what is 20 % more than previous year.
